  32. Plug-ins allow you to assemble (and pay for) just the tools you need for 
  33. what you are doing. They also open up product development to a vast 
  34. number of 3rd party developers... so you don't have to wait for LW 4.* to 
  35. have metaballs, etc...

  37. As for 3DS, the gripe was that you're paying close to $4K for a program 
  38. that doesn't even get useful until you load another $1500 worth of IPAS 
  39. modules into it.  LW has IK, bones, lens flares (some of the most 
  40. popular 3DS plug-ins), metaform, spline modeling, and ray-tracing for 
  41. under $800.  I doubt many people will gripe about paying extra for 
  42. specialty features.
